I started competing in cycling at the age of 12 after riding my local Wrexham club TT on my dad’s wheel. Since Then, I progressed through the youth and junior ranks racing the national series for the Dave Mellor Cycles sponsored Mid Shropshire Wheelers youth/junior team, gaining lots of valuable experience in both road races and time trials.
In 2014, I won the GHS national schoolboy championship TT which really kick started a passion for time trailing. This caught Matt’s attention. So, in 2016 when I reached out to Matt to ask for coaching, we quickly started working together and got on well, he has been my coach ever since. I also joined Team Bottrill at this time and have competed for them every year since, apart from in 2019 where I took a year to focus on road racing riding for Active Edge Race Team.
Since this coaching relationship began, I went from strength to strength culminating with me winning the elite men’s Welsh Time Trial championship in both 2017 and 2018. As well as winning several road races including the North Wales 2-day and the Bob Swails memorial road race. I love being part of Team Bottrill/MBPC, and now I have started working with MBPC in a professional capacity helping others achieve their goals it’s even more rewarding.
In 2020 I qualified as a level 3 ABCC cycling coach. I am also currently finishing a Sport and Exercise Science degree where I take a keen interest in keeping up to date with the latest Physiology, Biomechanics and sports Psychology research. Learning and understanding the science behind sporting and cycling performance Inspired me to combine my sport science/coaching knowledge with my own cycling experience to help others achieve and exceed their cycling goals with MBPC.
I like to build a good, strong relationship with the athletes I coach. I think that is the best way to get them performing at their best both physically and mentally. Being a strict coach only works in the short term, for long term development and success a good healthy coach/athlete relationship is the key. I also understand athletes will also have commitments besides training/racing. Fitting my own training/racing around my studies and work has allowed me to gain an insight into how to balance things successfully and get the most out of limited time
