What To Consider When Choosing A New Bike Frame
At Matt Bottrill Performance Coaching we pride ourselves on going that one step further with performance, especially when it comes to our bike fits and custom builds.
Choosing the right bike frame is key to performance, Here are my tips to consider when choosing your bike and custom bike build.
1 - Consider what you want the frame for . Road Riding, Sportive , Road Racing , Cross racing , Gravel, Mountain biking, Triathlon or Time Trial.
2- Every frame offers different geometry , compliance , aerodynamics, storage and weight .
3 . Selecting the right size frame is key to performance. You’re best to get this done by a professional bike fitter than online geometry charts. Reason for this if you have shorter legs long torso for example then the sizing of the bikes can be out, But bike fitters can advise on this.
4 Once you know what your correct frame size is then that’s when you can consider the correct handlebars , stem , crank sizing , gearing, saddle, wheels and component choice.
5 Getting the right frame size will not only improve comfort but also handling of the bike. Every frame on the market offers a different sensation so always chat through with experts about what your trying to achieve.
6 Custom building your frame into a bike is always the way I like to build bikes there just so much more choice and your not sold an off the shelf package. You will normally find to fully optimise it to you, your looking at performance gains are your crank size , stem and reach won’t be optimal and will end up costing a lot more money.
7 Budget will always be a key factor with any frame build . We can tailor a custom build to your budget and needs.
